Avalanche warning for region Indre Fjordane Tuesday 04.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 3. January 2022

2 i Grasdalen, og eit stort skred i Napefonna.

Mountain weather

Monday 3. January 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -9 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 4. January 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -10 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
